Hydroponic Produce Benefits For the Environment (Environmental Sustainability)
Dee Mandala Farms is committed to environmental sustainable growing practices that care for the environment while providing nutritious food. Our Hydroperfect growing practices have the following environmental benefits
Integrated Pest Management Practices (IPM)
Dee Mandala Farms practices an intensive Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program that uses beneficial insects to eliminate pests and stimulate healthy plant growth. In fact, we are a leader in the IPM movement that results in naturally-perfect produce.
Water is conserved and recycled.
Despite being nourished by a nutrient-rich water, Hydroperfect growing actually uses less water than field growing, due to two factors: Dee Mandala Farms recycles water and our greenhouse controls humidity and therefore water loss through evaporation. Our state-of-the-art greenhouses deliver water directly to the root of the plant. This water is sterilized, recirculated and delivered to plants four times before it leaves the greenhouse and is spread on neighboring ranchland. In field growing, water is used only once and has to go through the soil before reaching the plant root, resulting in water loss. 100% of the water used by Dee Mandala reaches the plants with no waste.
In our enclosed indoor garden, there is no depletion of soil nutrients because soil isn't used in the growing process! This also means that soil erosion is impossible. Instead, our plants are rooted in a reusable coconut fiber that is a sustainable by-product of coconut production.
Hydroperfect farming yields 20-30 times more product per acre than conventional field production utilizing far less water per pound. This high yield means fewer acres needed for growing and more open space left to nature. Dee Mandala plants the same indoor area every growing season. No need to clear more acres to find rich soil or leave fields fallow to let the soil "recover."
